In his second full year of competition in the Busch Series, a year in which he finished 8th overall in the final points standings, Johnson had one win, four top-5 finishes, and eight top-10 finishes. While he lost the Cup rookie-of-the-year battle to Ryan Newman in 2002, he still made NASCAR history--becoming the first rookie to lead the Cup standings.
